Network Monitor (61xx)
This is a hidden menu in your Nokia Phone. If you want to active it you'll have to reprogram
some chips inside of your phone. For example the Nokia 6110 Network Monitor:
1. Check your Software version. You can continue ONLY if you have 4.33, 4.73 or 5.24!
2. Take apart the phone.
3. Desolder the EEProm (ATMEL AT 24C64).
4. Read out the data with an EEProm progammer and save it to a file (backup).
5. If you have v4.33 or 4.73 then change adress 03B8 from 00 to FF.
6. If you have v5-24 then change 0378 from 00 to FF.
7. Write the new data to the EEProm and solder it back into the mobile phone.
8. Power on your phone and you should have menu number 10.

The Network Monitor gives you the following informations:
Carrier number
MS RX level in dBM
Received signal quality
MS TX power level
C1 (path loss criterion, used for cell selection and reselection). The range is -99 to 99
RLT (Radio Link timeout)
Timeslot
Indication of the transmitter status
Information on the network parameters
TMSI (temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity)
Cell Identification (CELL ID, number of the cell being used)
MCC (Mobile Country Code)
MNC (Mobile Network Code)
LAC (location Area Code)
Ciphering (on/off)
Hopping (on/off)
DTX (on/off)
Discarding cell barred information

Revealing Hidden Menus of Nokia 6110
There are two menus on the Nokia 6100 series which are not enabled by defualt, and only appear when some optional accessories are fitted, namely the hands free kit or the car kit.
Note: The following instructions require you to short out certain contacts on your phone. Again, I will not hold responsible for any damages that may happen.
As you look at the bottom of the Nokia 6100 series, on the right, you should see 7 gold connectors in a row. For the following instructions I am going to refer to these as pins 1 to 7 with pin 1 the leftmost pin of the seven and pin 7 the rightmost pin.

Enabling The Hands Free/Headset Menu

Short out pins 1 and 2. After a few seconds, the word 'Headset' should appear on the display. You should now find that you have menu 3-6 enabled.

Enabling The Car Kit Menu

Short out pins 2 and 3. After a few seconds, the word 'Car' should appear on the display. You should now find that you have menu 3-7 enabled.

Removing The Menus

The only way to remove the menus is to select the 'Restore Factory Settings' option from the settings menu of your phone. When asked, enter your security code (by default it is 12345). The following instructions will enable the network monitor feature appear on your Nokia 6110.
After you have done the following procedure, you should have a menu 10 on your phone which will allow you to check almost anything about the network you're phone is connected to.

The older technology was called LPC-RPE (Linear Prediction Coding with Regular Pulse Excitation). Both operate at 13 kilobits.(but you take up more space on the network, so they can charge you more) - Talk-time is reduced with about 5%

Change Alpha Tag on a Nokia

The alpha tag is the message that is displayed on your phone when in digital coverage. This is normally transmitted by the network, but can be overidden to display a different tag. This is done by creating a tag for a personal/residential zone in the phone, and setting this zone to have the same settings as your normal carrier. So when the phone identifies the network system it believes it is in the personal/residential zone and displays the tag you have programmed.

1) Enter programming mode of the phone by keying *3001#12345#

2) Find out the ID of your operator by entering the NAM1 menu. Note the Home System ID setting. (16387 on Rogers AT&T in Calgary)

3) Scroll to and enter PSID/RSID lists (menu 7)

4) Select P/RSID 1

5) Scroll to PSID/RSID and change the setting to 1

6) Scroll to Connected system ID and change the setting to the ID of your system (eg 16387)

7) Scroll to Alpha Tag and enter the message you would like displayed.

8) Scroll to Operator code (SOC) and enter coed for your provider such as 2050 for Rogers or 2049 for AT&T

9) Scroll to Country code and enter 302 for Rogers or 310 for AT&T

10) Power cycle your phone and hopefully your message will be displayed

Ao contrário do que muita gente pensa, os fios da linha telefônica possuem uma tensão contínua equivalente a -48 volts. Esta tensão se altera para um valor alternado de 96 volts quando o telefone toca. Portanto, ao lidar com os fios do telefone, tenha o cuidado de não encostar no orelhão, na parede, ou em qualquer coisa que possa "aterrá-lo". Este cuidado deve ser redobrado se o telefone for comunitário ou residencial. Levemos também em consideração que se o aparelho possuí uma tensão contínua, significa que ele tem também uma polarização correta (fio positivo e fio negativo). Na instalação do aparelho esta polarização não faz diferença, mas quando o assunto é violação, ela deve ser observada.
Vamos lembrar também que existem dois tipos de linhas telefônicas:
A) Decádicas (ou Pulse) - são as linhas dos prefixos mais antigos do sistema telefônico. A identificação de chamadas se dá através de uma série de sinais (pulsos), que são interpretados pela central telefônica.
B) Multifrequenciais (ou Tone) - são as linhas dos prefixos mais novos onde trabalham o serviço de CPA (Central telefônica com controle por Programa Armazenado). A identificação de chamadas se dá através da decodificação de tons frequenciais em números.
Seção 2 - Telefones privados
- Introdução
Nesta seção, explicarei o processo (bem simples) de se efetuar ligações a partir de telefones sem teclas ou com cadeado, muito comuns em empresas e ambientes de trabalho.
2.2 - Efetuando ligações de aparelhos sem teclas
Antes de começarmos, precisamos definir o que significa "duração de um pulso". Um pulso é simplesmente uma interrupção no fluxo de corrente que circula na linha telefônica, e a sua duração é entendida como o espaço de tempo decorrido do início ao fim desta interrupção.
Os pulsos enviados pelo aparelho telefônico quando você aperta o botão de algum número, são iguais ao sinal emitido quando você coloca o telefone no gancho. A diferenciação é feita pela central telefônica, usando como referência a duração do pulso. Se ele for um pouco maior do que 0.5 segundos (aumentar um pouco esse valor para as linhas mais antigas), a central considera que é um pedido de linha. Se a duração do pulso for menor do que esse valor, a central irá considerar que um número a ser discado está sendo enviado.
Para formar os números de 0 a 9, são enviado uma série de pequenos pulsos em seqüência referentes ao número, ou seja, 2 pulsos para o número 2, 3 para o número 3 e assim por diante. Para o número 0 são enviados dez pulsos.
Para simular esses pulsos sem a necessidade de teclas, basta usar o botão onde se "pega" a linha, aquele onde você coloca o telefone em cima quando quer terminar uma ligação. Aperte e solte este botão rapidamente de acordo com o número que você quer discar, espere um pouco e aperte outra série de vezes de acordo com o outro número. Lembre-se que para o número 0 deve-se apertar o botão dez vezes.
Faça isso com todos os números e, ao final, você escutará o tom de chamada.
